Based on the novel by Jay Asher, “13 Reasons Why” is a popular Netflix series that tells the story of a high school student who leaves audio cassettes implicating 13 individuals who influenced her decision to end her life.  The cassettes uncover topics related to bullying, sexual harassment, sexual assault, rape, and suicide.  The show is rated TV-MA, for mature audiences.  We urge you to talk to your child to see if he/she is watching this controversial series.

There is concern that after watching “13 Reasons Why” some students could wrongly consider suicide as an escape.  Suicide is never the answer and we continue to emphasize this message.  Students are always welcome to meet with our counselors, administrators and teachers regarding thoughts or feelings they may have about harming themselves.
This is an important matter and cannot be taken lightly.  Please click on the link for a list of Westmoreland County Suicide Prevention Resources.
