Project Based Learning

The Ligonier Valley Middle School includes project-based learning (PBL) as part of its educational program.  Learners work on challenging projects over a period of time that emphasize solving real-world problems or answering authentic questions.  They are able to draw upon knowledge, skills, principles, and concepts from a variety of subects to formulate their solutions.  The content of the projects are based on learner interest and are linked to career pathways.  Teachers advise and facilitate PBL.
This year, learners will be engaged in this inquiry learning on Wednesday afternoons.  They will be grouped by common interests and not by grade-levels.  Topics will include agriculture, community service, toys, ecology, graphic design, theater, healthy living, philanthropy, and news broadcasting.  Learners are not limited to a set of predetermined topics.  They can identify other interests and develop their own proposals.
